The Department of Prisons says a group of female inmates, including foreign nationals, has been transferred from Negombo Prison to Wariyapola and Bogambara prisons.

The transfers follow unrest at the prison earlier this week, with authorities carrying out relocations in phases.

The Department also said arrangements are underway to transfer male inmates from Negombo Prison to other correctional facilities.
