Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Secretary General of the Sri Lanka–Russia Friendship Society, the prestigious Order of Friendship for his outstanding contribution to strengthening Sri Lanka–Russia relations.

A former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Weerasinghe expressed gratitude to President Putin and pledged to further enhance cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The award ceremony was held on Russian National Unity Day.
