A crocodile attack on an inmate at the Anuradhapura Prison on Monday (22) has raised questions on how a prison inmate came into contact with a crocodile.
The crocodile had reportedly grabbed an inmate at the Anuradhapura Prison, who had been rescued after much effort by a group of people. The injured inmate had then been admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital and subjected to an emergency surgery.
The inmate is a 34-year-old individual who had been in the open air prison at Anuradhapura.
A prison official, when questioned by the media as to how an inmate came to be attacked by a crocodile inside the prison, had said that the relevant inmate and several others had been engaged in cultivation work within the prison premises near the Malwathu Oya when the crocodile had attacked him when he was near a bamboo bush.
