Thenuji Dulansa is a talented and passionate young individual from Kiribathgoda. Thenuji’s heart beats to the rhythm of music, where she truly shines. She is an active participant in her school’s western music band, where she skillfully plays the melodica.
Not limiting herself to a single instrument, Thenuji displays her versatility by playing the piano, recorder, and melodica. She is also a trained announcer and presenter and an active member of the school media club.
Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is M. Thenuji Dulansa, and I’m 12 years old. I live in Kiribathgoda with my family. I attended Kiribathgoda Balika School, but after passing my scholarship exam, I moved to Colombo Gothami Balika Vidyalaya.
I have a passion for music, and I’m involved in various musical activities. I also enjoy playing the piano, recorder, and melodica. My dream is to become a singer or musician, and I’m determined to work hard to make that dream come true.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have some adorable pets that I love very much. One of them is a dog named Foal. He’s a Labrador retriever, and he’s really friendly and playful. Foal is like a best friend to me, and we have so much fun together. I also have a cat named Kalu. Kalu is super cute and has beautiful black fur. Even though Foal and Kalu are different kinds of animals, they get along well and sometimes even play together. I feel lucky to have such wonderful pets in my life.
It sounds like you have a lovely family. How many siblings do you have?
I have two sisters and one brother. My older sister is studying at the Moratuwa Engineering Faculty. My younger sister will be going to Japan this year. My brother is preparing for his Advanced Level exam, and he’s a student at D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya.
My mother used to work as a hotel designer, but she’s not working at the moment. My father is a store manager at Sierra Cables in Kaduwela.
You mentioned that you have a passion for singing. Are you taking any singing classes?
Yes. This year, I’m planning to start voice training classes with Umara Sinhawansa. I’m already attending pitching classes with Harith Wijeratne.
How did you get into announcing?
Well, I first trained with Chulaka Maduranga sir. He invited me to announce at Lak FM and Didula FM. I’ve completed all the courses in his class. Sometimes I get to do morning announcements at the media club in school.
Apart from singing and announcing, do you have any other hobbies or activities?
Yes, I love doing western music at school. My teacher encourages me to take the Trinity College London exams, and this year I’m in grade two. I also play the piano, melodica, and I’m part of the school band. I play the recorder too, but just a little bit.
Do you participate in any other extracurricular activities?
Yes, I have completed the Flyers exams for Cambridge English, and I even won a cup for achieving all the stars on the certificates. I used to do swimming, but I’ve stopped now. I’m also a member of the media unit and the astronomy club at school.
As an announcer, what do you hope to achieve for society?
As an announcer, my goal is to tell people the truth about what’s happening in society. I want to share news that is correct and accurate so that people can trust the information I provide. It’s important to me that I’m known as someone who always tells the truth because I believe that honest news helps people make better decisions and understand the world around them. So, my aim is to be a reliable source of information for everyone in the community.
Apart from being a singer and announcer, do you have any other dreams for the future?
Yes, I really want to become an astronaut. I love the planet Saturn, and I’m fascinated by space. I want to learn more about it.

There are a few people I would like to thank. Firstly, I want to thank my parents for always being there for me and supporting me in everything I do. Their encouragement means the world to me. I would also like to express my gratitude to my school and all the teachers who have been a part of my journey, both in my old school and my new school. They have been incredibly supportive and have helped me grow and pursue my passions. I am truly grateful to all of them.
