A suspect who allegedly robbed valuables including gold jewellery from several residences in the Badalgama area after threatening the occupants of the houses with a hand grenade, has been arrested along with his wife while in possession of over 5 kg of heroin.
Police said that the suspect had robbed several houses in the area during the night by threatening the residents with a hand grenade.
However, it has been revealed that the arrested suspect and his wife are heroin addicts, and that they have used the money obtained from selling the stolen valuables to purchase the drugs.
The suspect had divulged during Police interrogations that the stolen gold jewellery was pawned off through his wife.
Later, during an inspection carried out at the suspect’s house located in the Divulapitiya area, the Police has discovered approximately 5,350 g of heroin which were hidden inside the house, according to the Police.
A hand grenade, gold jewellery valued at around Rs. 700,000 and a mobile phone found inside the house have also been taken into custody.
