The Principal of the Nanu Oya Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Nuwara Eliya has died after being hit by a train running from Badulla to Colombo.
The accident occurred on the railway line between the Radella and the Great Western Railway Stations on 11 June.
The 52-year-old had been on his way to the school, to attend a shramadana which was organised to clean the school and classrooms since the new school term was scheduled to commence the next day.
The train drivers had continued on the journey after the accident, as they did not notice it.Later, a train guard has informed the train drivers about the accident. Subsequently, the officials of the said railway stations together with Police officers had brought the body of the deceased principal to the Nanu Oya Railway Station.
However, the Badulla – Colombo special train had been delayed for about two and a half hours until the body was removed from the railway track.
