The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory over a low-pressure area near Sri Lanka.

The advisory was issued at 3.30 p.m. today (16), with the system located northeast of the island.

Showery and windy conditions are expected to continue across the country.

Strong winds and rough seas are forecast in sea areas around Sri Lanka and in the Bay of Bengal.

The public, naval and fishing communities have been advised to monitor official weather updates.
