The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the purchase of an additional 15,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer for the 2026 Yala cultivation season.
The procurement will be carried out through Agrarian Service Committees under the Department of Agrarian Development.
Officials have estimated that around 75,000 metric tonnes of urea will be required for the season, with nearly 48,300 metric tonnes already being distributed.
The government had earlier approved the sale of a 50kg bag of urea fertilizer to farmers at a fixed price of Rs. 10,200.
