The Government said that there is no issue with regard to the power of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) despite Opposition parties’ claims that the Government has not secured adequate votes.

Responding to a question raised by the media during the weekly Cabinet press briefing, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa added that the National People’s Power (NPP) has the right to establish power in the CMC as the Party that has secured the most number of seats as a single Party.

He questioned the Opposition parties’ arguments about the NPP having not received enough votes to secure power in Local Government institutions.
