The Meteorology Department warns that a low-pressure system east of the island will bring heavy rainfall and cloudy skies.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected intermittently in the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern Provinces, and across other areas after one p.m.

The Department forecasts rainfall exceeding 100 mm in parts of the Northern and Eastern Provinces, with fairly heavy falls over 50 mm likely elsewhere.

Misty conditions are possible early morning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern Provinces. 

The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning.
