Meet Binudi Linethsa Aloysius, a remarkable fourth-grader whose creativity and passion shine brightly at Mazenod College in Anuradhapura. She is smart and creative and loves to draw, solve puzzles, and help others. She dreams of becoming a NASA scientist one day. Binudi cares a lot about nature and animals, especially birds, and she believes that when people harm nature, it affects everyone and everything around us.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Binudi Linethsa Aloysius, but you can call me Bin. I’m in grade four at Mazenod College in Anuradhapura. It is an English medium school. My favourite thing to do is draw. I love using colours and making beautiful pictures. My most favourite subject in school is PT (Physical Training). It’s so much fun to play and be active. I enjoy playing cricket with my dad. We have a lot of fun together. I also like playing hopscotch. It’s a cool game where you jump on squares and try not to step on the lines.

What are some of the things you love to do?

I really, really love drawing and painting. It’s so much fun to use colourful pencils and paintbrushes to create beautiful pictures. Solving puzzles is another thing I enjoy. It makes my brain work and I feel so proud when I find the right solution. Birdwatching is super cool. I love their beautiful feathers and listening to their songs. Being in nature makes me feel happy and peaceful. I also like helping others. When I have free time, I help my mom and grandma with chores or anything they need assistance with. It feels good to be useful and make them happy.

What are some things you dislike?

I really, really don’t like it when people do bad things to animals. Animals are so innocent and they deserve to be treated with love and kindness. It makes me sad to see animals hurt or not being taken care of properly. I also feel upset when people destroy the beauty of nature. Nature is so amazing with its trees, flowers, and all the creatures that live in it. When people harm nature, it affects everyone and everything around us.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I grow up, I want to be a scientist and work at NASA. I think space is so fascinating, and I want to explore and learn more about it. I also have a passion for studying birds. They are such amazing creatures, and I want to understand them better and help protect their habitats.

Who are the people who help you?

I’m really lucky to have wonderful people who support and help me. My mom and dad are always there for me, guiding me and encouraging me to follow my dreams. My grandma and grandpa also play a big role in my life. They teach me valuable lessons and spend time with me, making beautiful memories together. My friends are like treasures too. We have fun together and support one another. I’m also thankful to my principal, Father, and teachers at school. They teach me so many things and help me grow as a person.

What are you doing these days?

Lately, I’ve been working on writing stories. I have lots of exciting ideas in my mind, and I want to turn them into amazing stories. I hope to share my stories with others and maybe even publish my own storybook one day. It’s a big dream, but I believe in myself.

What is your favourite cartoon?

It is called ‘Angry Birds’.

It is about a group of colourful birds who live on a peaceful island. When their eggs are stolen by green pigs, the birds become angry and decide to take revenge.

What are your hobbies?

Reading books is one of my favourite hobbies. Aunty Janaki Sooriyarachchi is an incredible author, and I love reading her books. They spark my imagination and take me on wonderful adventures. Whenever I read, I feel like I’m in a different world. It’s amazing how books can transport you to different places and teach you so many things. Aunty Janaki Sooriyarachchi is my role model, and I hope to write stories that make others feel the same way her books make me feel.
