Sri Lanka prepares for busy winter as multiple airlines return to BIA and MRIA

Sri Lanka’s aviation sector is set for a busy winter season, with several international airlines resuming or beginning operations at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA).


Kuwait Airways will resume four weekly flights to BIA from 27 October 2025, while Red Wings and Belavia – Belarusian Airlines will start their winter schedules at MRIA from 28 October 2025.


Swiss International Air Lines and Enter Air will also join BIA’s winter operations from 28 October 2025.


To manage increased passenger volumes, Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka (Private) Ltd announced that 12 new check-in counters will be added at BIA from 1 November 2025 as a short-term measure.
