The Disaster Management Center (DMC) announced that a nationwide tsunami mock exercise will be held on 5 November to strengthen preparedness. 

The drill, organized by the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) with 28 participating countries, will focus on Kalutara, Matara, Jaffna, and Batticaloa, while involving all districts. 

DMC Director General Major General (Retd.) Sampath Kotuwegoda said the move follows minor quakes near the Sumatra Trench, noting that quakes above 6.5 magnitude could pose a tsunami risk to Sri Lanka.
