The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber advisory for severe lightning in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. 

The advisory, issued at 12.00 p.m. today(07), remains in effect until 11.00 p.m.

The department said thundershowers with severe lightning are likely in these areas, with temporary strong winds possible during storms. 

The public has been urged to take precautions to minimise damage and ensure safety during lightning activity.
