The Ministry of Environment has called for a comprehensive report on the fire at the Kerawalapitiya garbage dumping yard and its environmental impact.

The fire broke out on 25 February at the site located on reclaimed wetlands in Kerawalapitiya.

Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody directed the Secretary to obtain findings on methane emissions, recycling processes and environmental restoration.

The report will also seek input from the National Ozone Unit and the Central Environmental Authority.

The Ministry noted that the public will be informed of the findings and follow-up action.
