Pradeep Nilanga Dela has been reappointed as the Acting Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, following the conclusion of his official term on 7 September , 2025.

The appointment was made with the consent of the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, the country’s two highest monastic orders.

Until the official Diyawadana Nilame election is held, Dela will continue to serve as the Chief Lay Custodian of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, overseeing its religious and cultural affairs.
