The Supreme Court has concluded its consideration of 15 petitions challenging the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill presented to Parliament by the Government.

The petitions were considered over two days by a three-member bench comprising Justices Shiran Gooneratne, Mahinda Samayawardhena and Sampath Wijeratne.

Following the conclusion of oral submissions today (4), the Court directed the relevant parties to submit any written submissions by 12.00 p.m. on Monday.

The Court will communicate its confidential determination on the constitutionality of the Bill to the Speaker of Parliament and the President.

The petitioners, including former Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, the Media Law Forum and Transparency International Sri Lanka, alleged that the proposed amendments would curtail judicial power and infringe fundamental rights. They have requested the Court to determine that the Bill requires approval at a referendum.
