Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has publicly thanked Elon Musk for enabling the launch of Starlink satellite internet services in Sri Lanka.

In a statement released today (2), Wickremesinghe acknowledged Musk’s support and noted that he initiated the Starlink approval process in 2024 following a meeting with Musk in Bali.

Wickremesinghe also expressed hope to meet Musk again soon to explore further opportunities for advancing Sri Lanka’s digital infrastructure.

Starlink, now officially available islandwide, offers high-speed satellite internet with wide coverage, especially in underserved regions.
