Sri Lanka declared non-compliant by world anti-doping agency

20 Aug 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has placed Sri Lanka on its non-compliance list after the country’s anti-doping body failed to fix issues in its legal system.

Sri Lanka becomes the fourth signatory deemed non-compliant, alongside Russia, the International Federation of Basque Pelota, and the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation.

WADA said Sri Lanka’s Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) was put on a “watchlist” in March and given until July 27, 2025, to address concerns. After missing the deadline and failing to dispute the decision, SLADA was suspended with immediate effect.

As a result, Sri Lanka cannot host or co-host WADA events, its representatives are barred from WADA boards and programs, and it will not receive development funding. If reinstatement conditions are not met within 12 months, Sri Lanka’s flag could be banned from major international sporting events, including the Olympics.
