The Hatton National Bank (HNB) team won the National Netball Championship for the fourth time in a row. The final was held yesterday (13) at Torrington Place Stadium in Colombo where they defeated the Sri Lanka Air Force team 44-29.
HNB entered the final by defeating the Sri Lanka Navy, while Sri Lanka Air Force entered the final by defeating the Sri Lanka Army. In the four quarters of the final game, the scores were 18-09, 28-11, 36-19, and 44-29. Sri Lanka Navy won third place in this year’s tournament after defeating Sri Lanka Army by 66-52.
Gayanjali Amarawansa won the award as the best middle player of this year’s tournament and Umanga de Soyza was awarded the best shooter of the tournament. Malmi Hettiarachchi won awards as the best defensive player of the tournament.
Gayani Dissanayake was crowned as the netball queen of this year’s tournament. Speaking to The Daily Morning Sports after the finals victory, she said: “I’m really happy with the HNB team. Most of our team members have national team experience. We work and play hard. That’s why we have managed to win back-to-back titles like this and that is why we are where we are today.”
