The Public Health Inspectors’ Union (PHIU) has urged residents in flood-affected areas to exercise caution regarding drinking water and disease prevention.
PHIU Secretary Chamil Muthukuda advised people to avoid consuming well water and stressed the importance of drinking boiled water to prevent waterborne illnesses like diarrhoea.
Children should only be given boiled water.
He also warned that the current disaster situation creates mosquito breeding grounds.
The public must take steps to eliminate these sites while cleaning houses to prevent the spread of diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.
