All trade unions attached to the Excise Department have agreed to support a proposed digitalisation and modernisation programme aimed at improving excise revenue collection.
The agreement was reached during a discussion held on 3 February at the Presidential Secretariat, attended by officials of the Excise Department, representatives of trade unions, the Revenue Administration Reform and Modernisation Bureau, and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The meeting focused on measures to enhance revenue collection by improving operational efficiency within the Excise Department. Discussions centered on the planned digitalisation process, proposed reforms, and broader modernisation initiatives intended to strengthen administrative performance.
Participants also examined ways to improve efficiency through technology adoption, human resource development, and measures related to the welfare of Excise Department officers.
Excise Director General M.B.N.A. Premarathne, senior department officials, and representatives of all trade unions affiliated with the department were present at the discussion.
