Homes destroyed by Cyclone Ditwah exceed 6,000

The number of houses completely destroyed across Sri Lanka due to Cyclone Ditwah has exceeded 6,000, according to the Disaster Management Centre(DMC).


The latest update shows 6,164 houses have been destroyed, while 112,110 houses have been partially damaged nationwide. 


Kandy District recorded the highest number of destroyed houses at 2,013, followed by Nuwara Eliya with 767.


Puttalam reported the highest number of partially damaged houses at 21,137, with 632 homes destroyed. 


Significant damage was also reported in Kurunegala, Badulla, Kegalle, Gampaha, Matale, Anuradhapura, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.
