A delegation from Sri Lanka visited Washington, D.C., to participate in a forum focused on Indian Ocean ports and supply chains, facilitated by the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka and the U.S. Department of State.

The forum brought together representatives from Indo-Pacific countries, including Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, alongside members of the U.S. private sector to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges in regional maritime trade.

Discussions centred on port development, digitalisation, cybersecurity, trade financing, and measures to improve supply chain efficiency across the Indian Ocean region.

As part of the programme, the Sri Lankan delegation also visited the Port of Baltimore, where officials were given an overview of port operations, logistics management, and digital platforms used to facilitate maritime trade and cargo movement.

The visit provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and explore best practices aimed at strengthening port infrastructure, enhancing trade connectivity, and improving supply chain resilience in the Indo-Pacific.

Officials said the forum highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and innovation in supporting efficient and secure maritime trade networks.
