Minister Anura Karunathilaka elected President of Sri Lanka–Canada Parliamentary Friendship Association

Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing, Anura Karunathilaka, has been elected President of the Sri Lanka–Canada Parliamentary Friendship Association for the Tenth Parliament of Sri Lanka.


The revival meeting, held on 6 June at Parliament, also saw MP Chandima Hettiaratchi appointed as Secretary. The event was chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne and attended by Canadian High Commissioner Eric Walsh.


Speaker Wickramaratne praised the enduring relationship between the two nations and emphasised Canada’s role as Sri Lanka’s 9th largest export market. He urged Canada to explore more investment opportunities in the island nation.


Newly elected President Karunathilaka and Secretary Hettiaratchi highlighted the importance of the association in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to sustained collaboration.
