Archbishop Ranjith criticises US President Trump over Iran conflict during Easter Vigil

During the Easter Vigil service, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith issued a pointed critique of US President Donald Trump, condemning what he described as the selfishness of a leader seeking global dominance.

Cardinal Ranjith stated that all nations are suffering today because of the actions of one man who desires to rule the world.

He emphasised that such leaders cannot be considered true Christians, especially given their current actions. “This leader, who is the head of the most important nation in the world, is showering bombs and causing destruction to his neighbors.

He calls himself a Christian. Christians cannot do what he is currently doing,” he said.

The Archbishop urged all Catholic devotees in Sri Lanka to pray for peace and to ask God to change the mindset of what he described as a power-hungry leader.

He also referenced historical figures like Adolf Hitler to highlight the dangers of seeking absolute power, calling on leaders to serve their people with love and humility rather than pursue individual gain.
