The Cabinet has approved new legal provisions to regulate private security agencies and their employees, aiming for efficient and effective oversight.
The reforms will cover registration and cancellation of agency licenses, issuance of firearms permits, service classification, personnel training, a code of ethics, and National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) based training opportunities.
Currently, around 150,000 employees work under 1,050 private security agencies in public and private institutions, but existing laws under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act No. 45 of 1998 were deemed insufficient.
