Sri Lanka is exploring the introduction of passenger drone services as part of efforts to promote tourism.
A discussion was held at the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation with officials and representatives of China-based EHang, which presented two-passenger electric aircraft capable of autonomous operation.
Potential locations discussed include Sigiriya, Pidurangala, Colombo and Port City Colombo, with a possible demonstration zone in Port City.
Minister Anura Karunathilaka stated that commercial operations would require approvals covering aviation safety, regulations, air traffic management, cybersecurity and other requirements.
