The Women’s Affairs Ministry is considering a proposal to allow female public sector employees to work from home, following a suggestion by an Opposition Parliamentarian.

Speaking to The Daily Morning, the Deputy subject Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana said the Ministry will take action after discussions, describing the suggestion as "efficient and much needed". He noted that Sri Lanka's female workforce contribution to the economy is relatively low compared to other South Asian countries, such as Pakistan. "The country needs a plan to incorporate more females into the workforce, and the idea posited by the MP is a very progressive one," Dr. Sudarshana said.

The proposal was made by SJB Kandy District MP, attorney Chamindrani Kirella, who argued that allowing females to work from home would boost their participation in the national economy.

Attempts to contact the Public Administration Ministry regarding the matter were unsuccessful.
