The Director of Military Intelligence of the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier Chandika Mahathanthila has stepped down from the post, it is learnt.
When contacted, Sri Lanka Army, Director General of Directorate of Media, Major General K. A..N. Rasika Kumara confirmed to The Daily Morning that the Army intelligence chief had stepped down. According to Maj. Gen. Kumara the Army Intelligence chief's tenure had ended. When asked if the vacant post had been filled, Kumara said he will need to make inquiries to confirm if the vacant post has been filled.
However, several sources within the Army told The Daily Morning that Brig. Mahathanthila was removed from post.
Attempts to contact the Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa for comment on the change at the helm of the DMI, failed.
