President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a key discussion with Finance Ministry officials today (7) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The talks focused on resolving challenges in vehicle imports, refunding withholding taxes for non-taxable retirees, and expediting the digitalization of VAT collection.
The President stressed balancing economic priorities with financial constraints regarding vehicle imports.
He also emphasised implementing a digital VAT system to improve tax compliance and revenue.
Expressing optimism about economic recovery, he reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting citizens amidst challenges.
Senior finance officials, including Deputy Minister of Finance Harshana Suriyapperuma and Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe, participated in the meeting.
