The Colombo High Court yesterday (11) dismissed an appeal filed by the wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, Shashi Weerawansa, against a two-year prison sentence and a fine imposed on her, who has been convicted of providing false personal information in order to obtain a diplomatic passport. 

Delivering the verdict, Judge Manjula Thilakaratne upheld the judgement previously issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court (MC) against the appellant. 

In 2022, the Colombo MC found Shashi Weerawansa guilty of the offence and sentenced her to two years’ of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 100,000.
