Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Uva, Eastern and Central provinces and in Hambantota today (12), the Meteorology Department said. 

Fairly heavy rain above 50 mm is likely in parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces, while up to 75 mm may occur in the Northwestern, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces. 

Showers may also develop elsewhere after 1.00 p.m., with misty conditions expected in several areas during the morning. 

The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning.
