The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court yesterday (22) ordered the Government Analyst's Department to submit reports on five blood samples which were found at the Temple Trees (the Prime Minister's official residence) on 9 May, 2022, when a group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Government supporters attacked two peaceful protest sites in Colombo.

A case pertaining to the attacks carried out by the SLPP supporters on two protest sites in front of the Temple Trees (“MainaGoGama”) and at the Galle Face Green (“GotaGoGama”) was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday.

The Criminal Investigations Department which is carrying out investigations into the incidents had requested the Court that an order be issued to refer five blood samples found at the Temple Trees on 9 May 2022, to the Government Analyst's Department, and to call for the relevant reports.

Taking into account the request, the Magistrate issued an order pertaining to the matter.

Following a group of SLPP supporters who had come to meet then Prime Minister and incumbent Government Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa attacking the two said protest sites, tense situations erupted in several parts of the country. After the attacks, the buses and vehicles in which the SLPP supporters had reached Colombo were smashed and set on fire by the people. Several SLPP supporters were also attacked by the people in Colombo and more than 250 who were injured during the clashes had been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo, including the SLPP supporters who carried out the attacks on the protestors, while at least six people had died during the incidents.
