The election for the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy is scheduled to be held on or around 7 November.

The Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, Gamini Senarathna, stated that the term of the current Diyawadana Nilame, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, ended earlier this month.

 He has since been appointed for a three-month acting term.

Pradeep Nilanga Dela was first appointed to the position in 2005 and has been re-elected twice. 

The term for the Diyawadana Nilame is ten years.
