Two suspects have been arrested over the seven-minute Louvre Museum robbery which saw eight of France’s priceless crown jewels stolen.
One of the suspects was reportedly caught at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a flight to Algeria following last week’s “highly organised” heist.
The Louvre was forced into lockdown after a group of thieves pulled off the brazen heist in broad daylight, making off with jewellery said to be worth £ 76 million. The gang, clad in high-vis vests, used a mechanical ladder on the back of a lorry to lift them to a first-floor balcony, where they smashed through a window of the Galerie d’Apollon using power tools before fleeing on scooters, sparking a widespread manhunt.
