The Sri Lanka Navy boxing team emerged as the undisputed champions of the Novices Boxing Tournament 2023, organised by the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL). 

The Navy won 10 gold medals, three silver medals and six bronze medals. The tournament was held at the Royal MAS Boxing Arena from 24 to 26 May 2023.

Accordingly, Able Infantryman S.I. Ranmal (under 51 kg), Able Seaman A.S. Priyankara (under 57 kg), Able Seaman S.G.D.S. Bandara (under 60 kg), Leading Infantryman P.M.M. Deepthiwardana (under 63.5 kg), Able Seaman J.P. Khaushalya (under 92 kg) and Able Seaman P.A.R.L. Vinod (over 92 kg) won gold medals for the Navy. In addition, Woman Able Seaman A.A.K. Kaveesha (under 48 kg), Woman Able Seaman K.M.M.J. Konara (under 50 kg), Woman Able Seaman L.R.S. Sasangi (under 60 kg) and Woman Able Seaman H.M.H.P. Jayakodi (under 81 kg) also won gold medals.

Moreover, Able Infantryman B.O.O.K.I.C. Prabath (under 54 kg), Able Seaman H.M.S.P. Herath (under 75 kg) and Able Seaman S.M.T.D.B. Samarashekara (under 80 kg) bagged silver medals. Further, Able Seaman W.P. Aravinda (under 48 kg), Able Seaman B.A.U. Bulathge (under 67 kg), Recruit R.M.M.K. Rathnayaka (under 71 kg), Woman Ordinary Seaman R.M.S.S. Rathnayaka (under 52 kg), Woman Able Seaman R.M.Y.D.B. Menike (under 54 kg) and Woman Ordinary Seaman K.A.D.A.S. Jayalath (under 57 kg) won bronze medals.

In the meantime, Able Seaman A.S. Priyankara was adjudged the Best Boxer and Woman Able Seaman K.M.M.J. Konara was nominated as the Best women Boxer of the BASL Novices Boxing Tournament. The tournament, where the Navy boxers displayed exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship, concluded with a resounding success.
