Missing youth’s body found in Madampe forest

  • Main suspect in disappearance surrenders & subsequently bailed 

Police said that the body of the man from Kuliyapitiya who went missing on 22 April after visiting the home of his girlfriend, has been discovered in the Madampe area.

The body of the man has been found torched and dumped in a forest area in Madampe last morning (7), the Police said. It has been confirmed that the man had been murdered. 

Police had launched an investigation after the disappearance of Susitha Jayawansa, 31, a resident of the Kaballewa area in Kuliyapitiya, was reported on 22 April and he was last seen visiting his girlfriend’s house following a phone call received from her father. Police said that it was later uncovered that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend’s father, and two other individuals identified as masons. 

Accordingly, the two masons who were later arrested had confessed to the Police that the father of the girl had said that the man in question should be taken to the house of a former Provincial Councilor living in the area. Following the incident, it was reported that the main suspect and his wife, the girlfriend of the missing youth and the two sons of the main suspect, as well as the main suspect’s sister and her husband, have left their homes and fled the area. 

However, the main suspect in the disappearance had surrendered to the Court on Monday (6) through his attorneys. The Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Randika Lakmal later ordered the release of the suspect, Sujith Fernando who is also known as ‘Singithi’, on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each.
