Lung cancer cases in Sri Lanka have increased by approximately 50% since 2010, according to health experts.
Consultant Thoracic Surgeon Dr Saman Iddagoda revealed the increase based on data from the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases and the National Cancer Control Programme covering 2010 to 2020.
He also noted a rise in cases among non-smokers, particularly women.
Consultant Community Physician Dr Hasarali Fernando stated that around 90% of lung cancer cases are associated with smoking, while second-hand smoke and indoor and outdoor air pollution also pose risks.
