Sri Lanka and Pakistan have renewed efforts to deepen defence cooperation following high-level talks between officials from both countries.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Major General Nayyar Naseer (Retd), met Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) at the Ministry of Defence yesterday (6), marking one of his initial official engagements since assuming duties.
The Defence Secretary welcomed the envoy and conveyed his best wishes for a successful diplomatic tenure in Sri Lanka.
According to the Ministry of Defence, discussions centred on reinforcing longstanding bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on defence collaboration, military training, and regional security dynamics.
Both sides also reviewed areas of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Colombo and Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner Zunaira Latif and the country’s Defence Attaché in Sri Lanka.
