State-owned television station Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has marked a first in national television by taking steps to present a Sinhala news programme using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
The SLRC has reportedly used AI technology replicas of leading TV anchors, Nishadi Bandaranayake and Chaminda Gunaratne during a recent 8 p.m. news bulletin. A major portion of the news telecast had been presented using AI technology.
The SLRC had earlier used this technology to broadcast the Sinhala and Tamil New Year rituals.
This broadcast was produced by Gamini Bandara Menikdiwela under the guidance of SLRC Chairman Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe. Menikdiwela is a producer who has gained extensive knowledge about AI technology through special training in Dubai and is currently imparting that knowledge for the advancement of electronic media in Sri Lanka.
The SLRC is also planning on providing new experiences to the people by utilising AI technology.
