The use of drones over the procession route of the Kandy Esala Perahera has been banned by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL). The CAASL has stated that the temporary suspension will be in effect from 30 July to 9 August, during the period of the Perahera.
The authority had stated that the suspension was aimed at ensuring public safety and security during the annual religious and cultural event, which attracts thousands of devotees and tourists.
The CAASL had further urged the public and drone operators to strictly adhere to this directive and avoid flying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) within the designated area throughout the Perahera period, warning of strict legal action against those who violate the regulation.
