Visakha and Joes remain on top after 4 days

Day 4 of the 47th Milo Sri Lanka Schools All-Island Aquatic Championship concluded yesterday (10) at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex. The last day of the championship will take place today. 

Visakha Vidyalaya extended their lead in the girls’ segment, reaching 259 points at the end of the penultimate date of the championship. Second in line is Ladies’ College, who overtook Mahamaya Girls’ College by reaching 175.50 points. The girls from the hill capitol are not far behind at third place with only 172.50 points. 

In the boys’ segment, Joes maintained their healthy lead over archrivals St. Peter’s College. The boys from Maradana are at 386 points while the Peterites are trailing behind at 289 points. In third place is Ananda College with 181 points. 

Anusara Abeygoonawardane from Wycherley International School renewed the record in the Under 20 400-metre freestyle event by clocking 4:17.73. Ganga Senevirathne from Visakha Vidyalaya registered a new record in the 50 metre backstroke event in the Under 20 age group with a timing of 31.56. 

In the Under 16 girls’ 100-metre freestyle event Jesse Senevirathne from Holy Family Convent registered a new record with a timing of 1:03.00. In the Under 18 girls’ 100-metre freestyle event, Hiruki de Silva from Gateway College Colombo renewed the record with a timing of 1:00.57. 



Day 1 


At the end of the first day, Anusara Abeygoonawardane of Wycherley International School shattered the record of the Under 18 boys’ 400 m individual medley event with a time of 5:02.17. Dilanka Shehan from Nalanda College held the record previously, which was set in 2018.

The Under 14 girls’ 50 m backstroke record was renewed by Vandani Fernando of Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya at the preliminary round. 

Heshara de Silva from Lyceum International School, Ratnapura registered a new Under 12 girls’ 50 m backstroke record with a time of 36.62 seconds at the preliminary round. 

M.M. Ekneligoda from Ananda College broke two records in the Under 12 boys’ 50 m backstroke and 50 m freestyle events. He clocked 30.71 seconds in the 50 m backstroke and finished the 50 m freestyle in 27.13 seconds.

Days 2 and 3 


Visakha Vidyalaya came storming back after a disappointing first day finishing sixth. However, a strong day 2 saw them finishing first with 190 points. In second place is Mahamaya Vidyalaya with 140.50 points. 

The Josephians continued their dominance, extending their lead at the top by 100 points from the rest of the competitors. They will start day 4 in possession of 335 points. Their archrivals St. Peter’s College are in second place with 242 points.
