Seevali Arukgoda has been appointed as the new Director General of Sri Lanka Customs, effective today (26), becoming the 45th head of the institution. 

A statement from Sri Lanka Customs notes that he is the first officer in the department's history to ascend through every rank to reach the top position.

Arukgoda, who joined Customs in 1989, has a distinguished 36-year career. 

He is a recognized World Customs Organization (WCO) expert and holds a law degree from the UK and a master's degree in Customs Administration.
