Restoration work on the Northern and Talaimannar railway lines was launched today(11) at the Maho Junction Railway Station. 

The project is being carried out with a US$ 5 million grant from the Government of India after the lines were damaged by Cyclone Ditwah. 

The work will also revive a stalled modernisation project that includes new bridges, an elephant underpass, and higher-speed train operations.
