CWC backing NPP in N’Eliya: Practice of supporting the party with majority: Thondaman

The Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) noted that it is in accordance with the past practice of supporting the party with the majority Local Government (LG) councillors or members that the CWC backed the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) in votes taken to elect top LG bodies’ officials in areas where the NPP had no majority power in the LG authorities.

In this regard, CWC President Senthil Thondaman told The Daily Morning: "If a Municipal Council or Urban Council or Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) does not have the majority, you have to definitely join with the other party in the council or the PS to form the council or the PS."

He added that the NPP extended their support in cases where the CWC won without the majority power, and that in the case where the NPP won without adequate councilors or members, the CWC extended its support as the people had given the mandate to the NPP. He noted that this is based on an understanding between the two Parties, and that they will as a team work together to address issues in the areas.
