Legendary Sri Lankan singer Latha Walpola has passed away yesterday(27), aged 92.
Born in Mount Lavinia in 1934, she made her debut on Radio Ceylon in 1946 at the age of 12.
During a career spanning several decades, Walpola recorded more than 10,000 songs, including in foreign languages, and was revered as the “Queen of Songs” in Sri Lankan cinema.
She began playback singing in 1953 with the film Eda Ra and went on to lend her voice to over 600 films.
