Three people have died following a fire at a restaurant near Thalawathugoda Junction, police said.

The victims were among three people injured in the incident and admitted to National Hospital of Sri Lanka. All later succumbed to their injuries.

The fire broke out on Monday morning and was brought under control by fire crews from the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council.

Police suspect a gas leak may have caused the fire. Investigations by Thalangama Police are ongoing.
