The Irrigation Department has issued an Amber flood warning for the Nilwala River Basin, with a possible minor flood situation within the next 24 hours.

The warning was issued at 2 a.m. today (24) following heavy showers and rising water levels recorded at river gauging stations.

Low-lying areas in Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Kamburupitiya and Thihagoda may be affected.

Residents and motorists in the identified areas have been urged to exercise extreme caution.
