Cabinet approval has been granted to implement a nationwide online traffic fine payment system, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced following a road safety awareness event near the Kottawa Interchange.
The initiative builds on a successful pilot project between Kurunegala and Anuradhapura and will enable drivers across Sri Lanka to pay traffic fines digitally. Police officers will be issued mobile devices to facilitate this rollout.
Minister Rathnayake urged the public to wear seat belts and drive responsibly, noting that the new system aims not only to streamline fine payments but also to promote safer roads nationwide.
